Tomorrow will mark 2 weeks since my heel surgery, and I am feeling a lot better. I only have occasional pain in the heel, little twinges. Most of the time I don’t hurt at all. But that’s not all good.

Feeling better means that I feel like doing a lot more. I want to get up and get out and do. But if I do, the foot still swells. I still need to keep the foot elevated as much as possible. And this cast is making me sleep mostly on my right side, so my right shoulder is killing me. So this sucks.

I’m getting better with the crutches, though. And believe it or not, I’m still doing well with my weight loss even without being able to work out. In fact, I went back to work Monday morning long enough for the final weigh in of this round of our biggest loser contest. And guess what? I won again! 5.4% of my body weight lost in the last 6 weeks.

Thought you might also be interested in seeing a pretty cool illustration of the hardware the surgeon used in my foot. Arthrex anchors and suture bridge. Without this hardware, it would be 12 weeks before I could attempt to put weight on that foot. With the hardware, it will be 6 weeks or less. Amazing. And after 3 months the hardware will degrade and be absorbed by my heel. You should have heard my surgeon geeking out about it. Only 4 more weeks to go!
