I don’t think I’ve mentioned on the blog that I have a painful spur on the back of my left heel. I actually first had one on my right heel a couple of years ago. I went for therapy and it’s never bothered me again. This one on my left heel, though, it’s a different story.

I tried physical therapy, but I think I maybe waited too late to start. It’s twice as big as the right one was. More than twice the pain. Last Thursday was my last day of six weeks of physical therapy, and it did not help. It’s so bad I can’t run at bootcamp. It’s so bad that I can barely walk after sitting for a long while. It’s so bad, it even throbs when I have it propped up!

So tomorrow at lunch I’m headed back to my orthopedic podiatrist to see what he thinks is the next step. In the past, I’ve tried to do ANYTHING to avoid surgery. At this point, I’m in so much pain and am so tired of this holding me back in my workouts that I don’t think it would be the worst thing to have surgery. That’s pretty bad.

There’s a lot of questions I have, of course. Insurance coverage, my costs, recovery time and success rates, etc. Coach JC does feel he could find enough to keep me burning calories even without that foot for a while. That encourages me and scares me all at the same time. LOL. I can’t imagine what he will dream up.

I’ll have to be even more careful with my meal plan if I can’t work out for a while. But I do NOT want to let this slow me down. “Fixing” my heel–no matter what the process–has to be done before I can move my workouts to the next level. And I am SO ready for that.
